What is it about?
The aim of this module is to increased awareness of improving health and wellbeing. It is a short online course in our suite of transforming care short courses. Each transforming care course was developed following a period of consultation with practitioners active in their field and critically reviewed by academic experts. The learning resources draw on rich audio-visual case studies enabling insight into the patient/service user experience. Each course incorporates a focus on workplace practice including regular opportunities for learners to reflect upon their own context and practice; KG004 addresses the MECC agenda making every contact count-and was developed specifically to support practitioners to address health and life-style improvements for patients/service users.

It is suitable for any practitioner's in health and social care interested in the basics of health and wellbeing.
What will participants learn?
The module content includes:
- The way in which health and wellbeing can be understood as arising out of individual biological and psychological factors. A model for understanding personal change and an approach to supporting people to make lifestyle changes will be discussed.
- How family background shapes health behaviour and the kinds of interventions that attempt to address family issues.
- The way in which an individual’s locality shapes their health and wellbeing. Community-based interventions and local action are explored.
- How health is related to the nature of society. Legislation and regulation will be discussed in relation to food law and packaging. The role of the government and business in health will be discussed.

How will participants be assessed?
Although this course does not carry university credit, regular computer marked tests and self-reviews can be used to test your understanding. The course is entirely self-directed and includes learning advisor support.
