A masterclass is an update course lasting one day. Please read the description carefully around what will be delivered. A masterclass is not at master’s level. Some will be a basic introduction to a subject and some may be building on previous knowledge. A masterclass does not prepare anyone to deliver specialist services. We recommend you speak directly to your chosen university about the details of any masterclass you are interested in.

A module will have academic credits attached to it at either level 6 (bachelor degree level) or level 7 (master’s level). You will be expected to complete an academic assignment. Some modules will last for 9–12 months and some may be completed within three months.

Developing practice in clinical skills

What is it about?   

This course trains you to carry out an in-depth history and conduct systematic physical examinations of different areas of the body including the respiratory system, cardiovascular system and the central nervous system. You will also learn best practice in documenting and communicating your findings.

Who is it for?      
It is suitable for multi-professional registrants.

What will participants learn?      

The module content includes:
- All aspects of clinical history taking and physical examination, including the principles of history taking and history taking and physical examination of the following:
- Respiratory system.
- Cardiovascular system.
- Gastrointestinal system.
- Central Nervous system.
- ENT and Dermatology.
- Endocrinology.
- Musculoskeletal system.

How will it be delivered? 
Problem based learning, group discussion, interactive lectures, simulation, workshop sessions and virtual learning environment.
Total of 70 hours face to face contact time.

How will participants be assessed?    
The course is assessed in 2 ways:

  • 7 station OSCE
  • Reflective portfolio of evidence

What experience / qualifications do participants need?    
Students must be registered healthcare professionals.You should have access to a clinical environment where you can observe and conduct the history taking process and physical examinations.
