What is it about?
This module addresses the guidelines for critical care nursing as described by the Critical Care Nurse Education Review Forum, incorporating the Critical Care National Competency Framework Step 2. The award is delivered over five contact days over a 10-week period, within semester 1. It addresses the complex care required by critically ill patients enabling you to develop your evidence-based knowledge and skills to support effective clinical decision-making.We provide a virtual learning environment, e-learning@tees to support you with podcasts, blogs, and videos. This module has an emphasis on safely and effectively integrating knowledge and evidence to support clinical decision-making. Highly realistic patient simulation training within the simulation laboratory enables you to experience teamwork, leadership, communication skills and aspects of clinical practice in a protected learning environment.
Who is it for?
This module is for adult critical care nurses currently working in critical care.
What will participants learn?
Knowledge development is supported by a variety of methods including seminars, direct supervision in your clinical area, e-resources and simulation. Student-led seminars, based on case studies and scenarios, encourage you, as a multidisciplinary practitioner to enhance your individual learning needs while networking and extending your knowledge and practice base.
You also share group work and experiences with professionals from a variety of other acute and critical care areas. Group work has an emphasis on reflective practice and decision-making strategies. You are encouraged to identify your own learning needs and undertake self-directed study through the virtual learning environment with weekly workbooks and pre-seminar reading

5 full days over 10 Weeks
What experience / qualifications do participants need?
Applicants require a minimum of one year’s experience in a critical care area. You must also have completed all of Step 1 of the National Competency Framework for Critical Care.
You should also have completed Transfer for Training or plan to complete it within a year.
Assessors supporting a nurse on this module should be competent critical care nurse from your clinical area. They must also have completed a recognised course of study that meets the requirements for mentorship (NMC, 2008) as identified by the Critical Care Nurse Education Review Forum.
You are required to complete all Step 2 competencies within six months.
