A masterclass is an update course lasting one day. Please read the description carefully around what will be delivered. A masterclass is not at master’s level. Some will be a basic introduction to a subject and some may be building on previous knowledge. A masterclass does not prepare anyone to deliver specialist services. We recommend you speak directly to your chosen university about the details of any masterclass you are interested in.

A module will have academic credits attached to it at either level 6 (bachelor degree level) or level 7 (master’s level). You will be expected to complete an academic assignment. Some modules will last for 9–12 months and some may be completed within three months.

Supporting learning in practice

What is it about?

This module has been developed to enable individuals to develop their educational role in order to facilitate learning, mentoring and assessment of students on in practice.

Who is it for?

Qualified Health Professionals

What will participants learn?

The module content includes:
- Learning theories 
- Reflective tools
- Using SWOT analyses and action planning 
- Effective learning environments
- Principles of work-based teaching
- Methods of assessment
- Effective feedback
- Systems of monitoring and evaluation
- Professional educational developments
- Ethical considerations/professional accountability
- Inter-professional learning
- Preparation for use of ICT
- Management of the failing student
- Responsibility of the Sign-off Mentor
- Supporting individuals with learning difficulties/special needs.

How will it be delivered?

3 contact days (weeks 1, 5, 10) and 2 distance learning days across a 10 week period.  Applicants must be able to attend the 3 contact days.

 
How will participants be assessed?

NMC Registrants must complete a portfolios that contains the essential evidence that you have successfully completed the competencies

 
What experience / qualifications do participants need?

Qualified health professional working in a health or social care environment with access to a learner to mentor
