What is it about?

This module provides the trainee with the knowledge that underpins the Radiotherapy Physics specialism in the third year of the MSc and gives the trainee the tools to undertake learning in the workplace.

What will participants learn?

Intended Knowledge Outcomes:
•Critical understanding of the scientific and technological principles underpinning imaging, planning and delivery of radiotherapy.
•Fundamental knowledge of an extensive range of therapeutic techniques utilising radiation.

Intended Skill Outcomes:
•Select and justify in a range of clinical situations the application of scientific and technical principles to develop and deliver external beam therapeutic interventions.
•Critically describe the commissioning process within a regulatory framework for new equipment with reference to LINACS, orthovoltage, treatment planning systems and imaging equipment.

2.5 week teaching block

How will participants be assessed?

90 minute written examination
2800 word case study

What experience / qualifications do participants need?

Applicants must have an honours degree (1st or 2:1) in a pure or applied science area relevant to the specialism for which they are applying. Applicants with a relevant 2:2 degree will also be considered if they have an MSc or PhD in the specialism for which they are applying.
