Rotations

 

There are 2 rotations in NHS England North East (NHSE NE), the Northern and the Southern Rotation. 

 

Northern Rotation

The Northern Rotation involves rotation between the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and the University Hospital of North Durham. Approximately 6 months of the 4 year programme will be spent at James Cook University Hosptial and around 6-12 months, 3 days per week are spent at the University Hospital of North Durham.  The programme offers excellent and comprehensive clinical experience and training in Dermatology and all its sub-specialties with strong links with University Department of Dermatology, which has a strong and active research programme. 

 

Southern Rotation

The Southern Rotation includes clinical placements divided between The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and University Hospital of North Durham.  After approximately the first 18 months of clinical training, the rotation offers the unique opportunity to rotate to the Academic Department of Dermatology at Newcastle University for up to 1 year to pursue research (the region offers a strong academic programme), or, within that year to develop an area of clinical expertise within NHSE depending on the requirements of the trainee.  Some of this year will be spent in clinical training at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle upon Tyne.
