Taster Day

We have successfully hosted a 'Taster Day' in public health since 2012 with very good feedback from those who have attended. Our taster days are an opportunity to hear more about Speciality Training in Public Health from Directors of Public Health, a range of Public Health Professionals and current Speciality Registrars in Public Health from across the Northern Region.  It is also an opportunity to meet others who are planning to apply and talk about the application and selection process.

Please find below the slides from the teaster day which took place on 5th November 2025:

Public Health Taster Day – Tuesday 6 October 2026

Are you considering a career in Public Health and would like to learn more about specialist training? Join us for our Public Health Taster Day on 6 October 2026, 1.00 – 4.30pm at Sunderland City Hall.

This interactive event offers an opportunity to hear from current trainees and experienced public health consultants working across local authorities, health protection, the NHS and academia. Through practical group activities, public health scenarios and an application workshop, you will gain insight into the breadth of public health practice, the skills required for the profession, and the process of applying for specialist training and provide an opportunity to speak directly with trainees, consultants and training leads.

Please contact england.publichealth.ne@nhs.net to register for the event. We look forward hearing from you.
