Rotation

The Specialty Training Programme in Public Health is a five-year programme. It begins with a 12-month period during which Specialty Registrars (StRs) complete a Master Public Health at Newcastle University, while being based in a local authority placement.

After completing the taught MPH course, registrars transition to full-time work within their local authority placement and undertake a three-month health protection training placement.

During the third and fourth years, registrars engage in more specialist training placements, which may include academic, national, and overseas opportunities.

The final year of training is determined by the StR’s interests and career plans as well as availability of suitable placements.

Placements typically last one year, with rotations occurring on the first Wednesday in August. Registrars are expected to rotate across the entire North East region.
