Approximately 12-18 months before the end of training, trainees will have a Penultimate Year Assessment (PYA) in both Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine (GIM). That’s 18 months training time, so part time trainees and those taking time out of programme within their last two years need to be aware of their own time line. If you think your PYA is due at the next ARCP round and haven’t heard a couple of months before, you should contact your SPC.
The JRCPTB provides advice on preparing for the PYA and the forms you will need to complete in advance. This includes details of on-calls, clinics and procedures for each post and a copy of your Curriculum Vitae, so it’s a good idea to have these prepared in advance. You will also be asked about your attendance at all mandatory courses and be expected to make plans to attend any that are outstanding by your final ARCP. Don’t forget that the ARCP requirements apply every year.
You will be expected to have registered with the Royal
College of Physicians online CPD diary, accessed via their website.
On the day, you will be asked to provide a brief presentation to the panel (4-5 slides). During your PYA, the panel will discuss and confirm your CCT date and identify any outstanding requirements for completion of training with you.
An online PYA form will be completed on Eportfolio for both Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine (GIM) clearly showing your PYA targets. You must have met all of the mandatory targets by the time of your final final ARCP. An outcome 6 (completion of training) form will be completed for both Gastroenterology and GIM. You should contact Dr Doig (GIM TPD) and Laura West (GIM SPC) to ensure your GIM outcome is completed ahead of your CCT date.
