NHS England are creating a cohort of educationally trained clinicians who can support clinical supervision to the wider workforce in primary care via our one day online fully funded Level 1 introduction to clinical supervision courses.
This one-day introductory course provides you with the basic skills to provide effective feedback and valuable debriefs. It does not offer you the full qualification of a clinical supervisor (CS) or educational supervisor (ES), although a certificate of attendance will be provided. If you are wanting to become a CS/ES then the route to apply is via the Intending trainers course. If you are unsure about becoming a full trainer or just wish to try clinical supervision this course will offer you that opportunity.
This training will cover:
- the nature of workplace learning – what is being learnt and how
- learning from experience and how the educator facilitates this, in particular using skills of questioning and feedback
- key factors that influence the learning process, such as motivation, safety, self-efficacy
- learning to conduct effective debriefs and optimise feedback skills
- the lesson plan
This level is appropriate for post CCT GPs and those supervising advanced clinical practitioners, physician associates, clinical pharmacists and resident doctors in foundation year within primary care, and will be the first step on a primary care educators journey. This level of training is also for those setting up a hub and spoke model with a neighbouring training practice/network.
Note: The level 1 course is not intended for CS in hospitals and is only available to clinicians in the North East and North Cumbria region.
