Before you decide to apply for the course you may find our overview document and course information guide useful. Alternatively, if you have any questions please contact england.intendingtrainers.ne@nhs.net.
We run a GP educators, also known as intending trainers, course twice a year in Spring and Autumn.
The courses are fully funded to attend (resubmission fees apply as outlined in the course information guide). We have provided funded training for the current GP educators as we try to meet the demands of the expansion in numbers of doctors in training in general practice.
We work on the basis that a newly approved GP educator equates to a new post in a practice, unless an educator is leaving or there are other mitigating circumstances.
You can read an overview of the GP educator course. In summary, the course consists of:
- taught content by a course tutor – 6 days in total. View the course dates on our webpage
- 6 sessions of supervisory training – these dates are to be agreed between you and your supervisory trainer
- self-directed learning – this is separate to the modules dates and you need to plan in time to complete this
- observation at an ARCP panel – you will be sent an option of dates and will need to attend for 1 hour and 30 minutes
- completion of a quality improvement project – this is separate to the modules dates and you need to plan in time to complete this
- completion of a reflective presentation – the completion of this is separate to the modules dates and you need to plan in time to complete this. You will then present this during Day 6 of the course
- successful completion of the course will lead to a trainer appointment panel. You may be required to attend an interview, if so, details will be shared with you
