CONTINUING PRACTICE

Welcome to the Continuing Practice Department

We are a relatively small team based within  NHS England (working across the North East and Cumbria), but our work covers a number of essential areas.  Some of our core functions include:

  • Providing an interface with NHS England (Cumbria and North East) around performance management, appraisal, revalidation and Postgraduate GP education;
  • Training new appraisers and quality assuring GP appraisal;
  • Running and managing the Postgraduate GP Tutor Network;
  • Working with Clinical Commissioning Groups to prioritise educational opportunities;
  • Assessing and supporting Doctors Requiring Additional Educational Support (DRAES);
  • Liaising with the GMC and helping GPs with imposed conditions;
  • Advising GPs on career breaks, working in the UK, returning to General Practice and Performers' List matters;
  • Maintaining and supporting the Primary Care workforce;
  • Running the GP Induction and Refresher Scheme and supporting GP Retainers.

We pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable and we welcome both formal and informal enquiries.  Where possible, we work on a one to one basis with our GP colleagues and support them wherever we can.  We have significant experience and expertise within our team, so invariably we can offer the right guidance.  Please feel free to get in touch if you think we might be able to help you or click on the links below for further information:
