This page outlines the key stages involved in planning, delivering, and completing the required documentation for the peer review scheme.
All supporting documents and links are available in the Resources section at the bottom of this page.
Step 1: Nominate a Facilitator
- Nominate a facilitator for the first session
- Each group member will facilitate one session
What is a Facilitator?
A facilitator is not there to teach or deliver a presentation. Instead, their role is to:
- Guide discussion
- Encourage participation from all group members
- Create a safe, open environment where colleagues can share experiences and perspectives
- Keep the conversation focused and balanced
- Prepare the agenda and complete the meeting report
What a Facilitator is Not
- A lecturer delivering a presentation
- Expected to be the “expert” on the topic
The value of peer review comes from shared experience, discussion, and reflection
It is essential that all facilitators:
- Read the Facilitator Guidance Document
- Watch the Facilitator Webinar
(See the Resources section below for details)
Step 2: Plan the Session
- The facilitator should arrange the meeting date, location, and topic in agreement with the group
- Each session should focus on a different topic, chosen collaboratively
- The facilitator must complete the Peer Review Meeting Agenda Template and share it with:
- the peer review group
- england.dentalcourses.ne@nhs.net
at least two weeks prior to the meeting
Step 3: Peer Review Meeting
- Sessions should last approximately two hours and provide an opportunity to:
- Discuss the topic
- Share experiences
- Explore best practice
- The facilitator’s role during the session is to:
- Encourage open discussion and reflection
- Ensure all group members have the opportunity to contribute
- Keep the session focused and on time
Step 4: After the Meeting
Within two weeks of the meeting:
- Participants should complete the online Participant Evaluation
- The facilitator should:
- Complete the Facilitator Evaluation
- Complete the Peer Review Meeting Report and share it with:
- The peer review group
- england.dentalcourses.ne@nhs.net
Important Information
- All sessions must be completed by 30 October 2026
- It is the group’s responsibility to ensure:
- All meetings are delivered
- All required documentation and evaluations are completed
CPD certificates will be issued at the end of the scheme once all sessions and requirements have been completed
