Specialist List Application Information

 

ST4

 

All applicants to ST4 training programmes are required to be on the GDC Orthodontic Specialist List at commencement of post.  Any applicant who is not on the list by the start date cannot commence training and may have their offer withdrawn.  Information regarding the application process can be found on the GDC wesbite: htts://gdc-uk.org/professionals/specialists-lists/application-pack.

 

  Entry criteria Timescales
UK Specialist programme applicants

Full GDC registration and have completed a UK specialist training programme approved by the GDC.

At the end of your specialist training programme you must hold the agreed qualification awarded by one of the Royal Surgical Colleges.  You must fulfill all entry, training and assessment criteria to be eligible for the award of completion of specialist training (CCST) and entry onto the relevant specialist list.

28 days.
Other applicants

Full GDC registration and have completed the equivalence of a specialist training programme.

Equivalance will need to be demonstrated via a GDC Specialist List application which requires assessment.

Evidence submitted for entry to the Specialist List will be assesed on the basis of equivalence to the training leading to the award of a CCST by the Royal College of Surgeons of Englands Specialist Advisory Committee Application Panel (SACAP).

4 months.

Applications for entry onto a specialist list requiring assessment, may take up to 4 months from the date an application is considered as being complete.

Please note if the applciation is not considered complete, the timescale may be considerably longer and this should be taken into account when deciding which round of ST3 recruitment to apply for.

Applications are considered complete when the applicant has provided all the necessary documentation outlined in the application form.  In all cases the Council requires original or certified copies of documentary evidence.

The Council encourges applicants to be explicit with the evidence they submit for assessment.  Evidence submitted for entry to the Specialist List wll be assessed on the basis of equivalence to the training leading to the award of a CCST by the Royal College of Surgeons of Englands Specialist Advisory Committee Application Panel (SACAP).

In order to be able to meet the requirements of the person specification, it would be advisable to commence Specialist List applications prior to applying for post CCST training post.

 

Overseas Registration Examination (ORE)

Applicants who hold a primary dental qualification from a University that is not in either the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland may be required to sit the ORE before being able to register with the GDC and apply for entry to the specialist list.  Information is avaiable at:
