Why is support for trainee doctors and dentists so important?

A significant amount of doctors and dentists at some point in their career will run into either personal or professional problems which may impact on their work or training and therefore may need additional support.

We believe that early intervention is essential. The aim of the support is to ensure that our trainee doctors and dentists have access to relevant support services throughout your training.

What support will the Trainee Support Service provide?

The support service is provided by a professional team who have experience of delivering an exemplar and unique service providing support and occupational health services to medical and dental trainees. The service offers a central point of contact by phone, email or fax. After an initial assessment additional support can be arranged with an occupational health, psychotherapy or and educational professional. The team has experience of supporting doctors and dentists in a number of areas including:

  • Sickness/ill health (physical, mental, emotional)
  • Personal factors (dealing with stress and anxiety, family concerns, bereavement)
  • Environmental Issues (workload, bullying and harassment, difficulties with programme)

The team also has access to Medical Advisors who can provide confidential support and advice for drug and alcohol concerns.
