SOUTHERN AFRICA: Global Health Fellowships (OOP) for GP Specialty Trainees

The North East office of Health Education England offers a number of Global Health Fellowships for GP Postgraduate doctors in training. Doctors appointed to these posts undertake a standard GP training programme but have the opportunity to spend 4 or 6 months attached to a rural base hospital in a number of locations across southern and central Africa.

Applications for Global Health Fellowships are made following successful recruitment to GP training in the north east and north Cumbria through the standard National Recruitment process. An Out of Programme post will then be added to your programme after the successful completion of the ST2 year. The OOP opportunity will be for 4 or 6 months. You will then return to complete the ST3 year and gain a CCT.

Support is given to Global Health Fellows prior to departure, during the period OOP, and upon return to the UK. This is an opportunity for GP Specialty Trainees to gain experience that will both complement their training and lead some individuals to further develop a career incorporating global health. For enquiries, please e-mail @Vanessa Perrott or gprecruitment.ne@hee.nhs.uk
