Supervision training sessions for supervisors of ACPs

Employers must ensure that they can deliver practice-based support, leadership, senior clinical supervision and educational supervision to trainee ACPs in the workplace. The standards for advanced clinical practice cannot be met by academic study alone and it is an expectation of the employer by accepting a trainee ACP that they will be providing this essential aspect of the training within practice.

We anticipate that many supervisors are already experienced supervisors and have undertaken training. To ensure all trainee APs are receiving high quality support and supervision, we expect all supervisors to either:

Secondary care

• Have current or recent experience of being the named educational supervisor for medical specialty trainees or to have undertaken a one-day clinical supervision course (many of the royal colleges offer these as does NHSE) and
• attend the faculty of advanced practice training session for supervisors of trainee advanced practitioners (sign up link found here).

Primary care

• the educational supervisor will be approved by the NHSE school of primary care and on the educational supervisor register; or to have undertaken the one-day level one supervision course run by the school of primary care. • attend the faculty of advanced practice training session for supervisors of trainee advanced practitioners (sign up link found here).

The faculty of advanced practice has upcoming ACP specific supervision training, with all sessions held in person at either Newcastle upon Tyne or North Cumbria. 

The next ACP specific supervision training sessions are:

• 9th Janaury 2024 at North Cumbria Integrated Care - 10:00 - 14:00
• 22nd January 2024 at Newcastle upon Tyne - 13:00 - 16:00

All above dates are face to face events. There are no virtual sessions for this teaching.
