Trainer Support

We recognise the value and professionalism that all our Trainers bring to the School of Primary Care. We also recognise that there will be queries that need answering from time to time; and there may also be times when the Trainer has concerns or needs further support.

We have created this site to draw attention to the assortment of different ways in which this support can be accessed and also to streamline an approach to addressing questions or concerns.

The process for getting help / support is detailed below :

Step 1: Self:

Some queries / problems can be addressed yourself. You have much knowledge and many skills as a Trainer and have access to several sources of information (eg the RCGP site). Some problems or questions, therefore, can be addressed using the resources already at your disposal. However, if you cannot find the answer / support at this level, please do not hesitate to ask for help.

Step 2: Practice

We emphasise that our doctors-on—training are placed within training practices – meaning that all the resources within the Practice can also sometimes be used to address questions or concerns. This may mean sharing concerns with your Partners, and enrolling team members through delegation and shared communication. Again, if the answer/support is not obtained at this Level, please look further.

Step 3: Community of Practice

As a Trainer, you are part of a wider network of Trainers. You may be connected to this group through a number of formal and informal means such as Trainer groups and whatsapp chats. There are also some more formalised ways of obtaining help and support at this level. Options include:

Step 4: Regional Programme

Each of the Regional Programmes offers a range of support for their network of trainers and has a dedicated Trainer support team of TPDs. Your appraisal and continuing CPD to support you is also supported by regular Trainer workshops run by each programme. And the admin team supporting each Programme are key in answering questions and putting you in touch with relevant people as needed.

Please see details on each of the 3 Programme’s support:

If you have a concern that you wish to escalate, we recommend that you follow the process for escalating concerns detailed on the website

Step 5: Central Office

The senior management team and central admin team are there to support work across the whole of the School of Primary Care.

The contact details and respective areas of work for the Central team are available here.
